Competitive Company FAQ’s

•    What is a Competitive Company?
A Competitive Company is a program for dancers looking for a more serious dance commitment. A company is a troupe of auditioned & selected dancers who meet weekly to practice technique, combinations, and a number they will enter in three to five competitions and exhibitions throughout the year. These companies will travel regional Wisconsin competing in dance exhibitions, attend conventions, and participate in community events. An audition is required. 

•    What are the types of dance styles offered?
NADC has various different dance styles offered at the competitive level; Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, Pom, Hip Hop, Ballet, Contemporary and most recently, Kickline. 

  • Are there different levels of competitive companies?  Yes. There are several different levels of competitive companies both in skill and commitment. Mini, Youth, and Junior levels are placed based on age ability and commitment level. They attend 2 to 3 competitions per year and meet once a week for class and rehearsal. Junior/Senior and Senior level companies are based on skill and commitment level. These companies attend 4 to 5 competitions per year, attend a dance workshop each Winter, a possible convention, and must take a technique class in addition to their competitive class(es). 

•    What is the cost to participate?
There is no additional tuition cost to be a Competitive Company dancer, however, other costs associated with competitng include convention & competition entry fees, costume & shoe fees, and other travel expenses. Convention & Competition rates vary by event and must be paid in full before the event for your dancer to participate.

•    When do the Competitive Companies hold class?
All of our Company classes are marked by an asterisk symbol (*) on the summer & fall schedules. They will meet once per week starting in the summer session and continue through the fall/spring session. Elite & Ultaviolet Jazz, Lyrical and Ballet company dancers must also take the competitive technique class. 

•    When are auditions?
Auditions are held every spring, typically the week after our annual performance near the end of May. Audition dates for the 2022-2023 season wil be coming early this Spring.
